What causes hair fall?


Your scalp and hair age the same way your body does. Over time follicles produce finer hairs as growth begins to slow down. Eventually hairs are unable to reproduce leading to hair miniaturization, and hair fall.


Hormones influence postpartum hair loss, and overall hair quality. When a woman's hormones drop after birth, large numbers of hair follicles stop growing and get ready to fall out. Most women see the greatest hair fall 3-5 months postpartum.

If your diet is deficient in specific nutrients, it can drive hair shedding and hair loss. Vegans and vegetarians are often deficient in zinc and iron, which is associated with hair loss. Crash diets can also impact growth causing temporary hair loss.


Bleaching, harsh chemicals and heating tools, when overused, can cause serious damage to your strands and hair follicles. Repeated chemical treatments also lead to scarring alopecia (central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia or CCCA).
